who knew?????

well, i must say that by doing the mentoring group I have learned a lot. So, far I have done a few groups and it has actually been fun!!!!!!!!!!! my first group involved quite a few of the staff at my school. i taught them how we can implement apangea and teenbiz into our classrooms. i know your thinking what are those programs?? well, apangea is a online math program and teenbiz is an online english program. previously, these programs were only available to our special education kids but now they are available to everyone. it was nice to see some staff members excited about learning new programs. hopefully each of our students will be able to benefit from these wonderful programs.
i have also began a small mentoring group with two special education teachers. in this group we are going over some of the basics of computers and some of the programs that we have available at our school. right now we are focusing on powerpoint and how it can be used in the classroom. it's nice to be able to share the knowledge that i have acquired to other people. so to my fellow mentors, keep up the good work.....ttyl

My mentors

Well, I have only been teaching for three years now, but some amazing people have influenced me as an educator. During my first year of teaching in GPISD we were each assignned a mentor teacher to assist us in transitioning into the classroom. My mentor was Mrs. Mucker a twelve year veteran special education teacher. She assisted me in setting up my classroom, preparing my lesson plans and controlling my classroom. She was very helpful in assisting me in any classroom management problems that I encountered. Moreover, Mrs. Mucker taught me the importance of empathy and how important it is in our school setting. Mrs. Pafford, was another teacher that became my mentor. During my first year of teaching we shared a room, whit her teaching high school students and I taught middle school students. She was a true asset in aiding me in how to effectively deliver the information to my students and how to get it down to their level.

finally friday!!!

it is finally friday!!!! 17 more days of school left!!! today has been a day of reflection for me as far as this semester goes. i have truly learned alot about multimedia and i have done things that i know i would not have otherwise done. my greatest accomplishment in my eyes was the animation project. i had so much fun creating the animation and i did not realize that it was such hard work. i mean, to even get a rabbit to move its tail up and down took quite awhile. i actually wish that i had been introduced to animation during my undergrad years because i might be in a different field today...

well, on to school business....today is friday and progress reports are due. i have already turned in all of my grades and for now the kids seem pretty subdued. no, real drama yet but the day is still young. i think at this point in the school year the kids are in need of a break and so are the teachers. but, only 17 more days left until summer..i must say i love my job but i definitely need to refresh my mind, body, and soul....so, bloggers i will talk to again when the hands hit the keyboard!!

been awhile.....

well, well, well.....it has been quite awhile and alot of crazy things have happened...let's summarize what's been going on. first, i found out that everyone at my school is being transferred :(. second, i found out that because i have only been teaching for two years i cannot choose where i will be transferred to :( so, as you can see things have been a bit stressful.

but, on to some good news... i have learned so much this semester and i have, surprisingly, applied alot of the things into my own classroom. i created a powerpoint lesson plan using a youtube video for the first time (Score for me!!!). the kids loved it and it actually kept them entertained. they have been asking when i will show something like that again...

I am a animator!!!

Well, this week has been truly mind blowing as far as learning goes. On the personal side I will admit it has not been that great because I have been sick for awhile now. Allergies can be a beast at times!! But, I have learned some exciting things about using animation and about adding audio files. I applaud all animators now because I see how much work goes into making simple animations. I consider myself to be a novice animator but a animator all the same. Who, knows I may have found my second calling, so look out world! J/K!! But, in all sincerity I have really learned alot and I plan on learning more concerning animation.

a little introduction

Well, let me first introduce myself. I am a 25 year old special education teacher. I have been teaching now for two years and I must say that I have seen and learned alot! For the past two years I have been working at Lamar AEP, the alternative school in Grand Prairie. I have seen some interesting things since I have worked there and I have learned alot about myself in the process. On the personal side I am now attending SMU and I'm working on my Master's degree in education. It has been a fun and exciting ride! In my spare time I like to read, write poetry, go to the movies, and hang out with friends and family. I am excited about allowing you all to view my life and share some of the crazy stories that happen in my little life.
TTYL :)
